I am a sensual being

5:32 pm Sunday, 12th May, 2013

It is a hallmark of my almost 46 years of life: I have always been a sensitive person. Noises too loud, fabric not feeling right against my skin, bumping into too many people in a crowded place making me jumpy. My over sensitivity has always been an issue, and a negative one at that.

Only recently have I begun seeing the positives of my reactions to anything involving the senses, and I call it sensuality.

The feel of a lover's skin; the vibrant colors of leaves on an autumn tree; music playing in the background that makes me want to cry.

Sight and sound call to me, but can sometimes overwhelm me in their "there-ness." My favorite senses are touch and smell.

Touch....an arm around my shoulders, hands at my waist, stroking my cheek, holding me close. A leg wrapped protectively over mine as we lie together. Full skin on skin contact...it's wonderful, but the constant reassurance of an arm at my side is as essential.

Smell...I love the smell of sweat. Call me weird, call me crazy, call me whatever you want, but sweat is sexy. Not, I must add, the rankness of days old unwashed bodies, but the smell of fresh sweat and hormones exuding from a man. Taste, to me, is just an extension of smell.

I love anything that awakens my senses, I feel more alive and vibrant for being able to experience life with my entire being.

I am not, as I have been called too frequently, overly sensitive. Instead, I am one who is able to appreciate the finer things in life. Talk to me about sensuality. In all forms.

I think the older I've got the more tuned in I've become to smells, sounds and sensations, so you're not alone.

I think when I was young and sloshing with excess hormones, the "mating" urge was more acute and I never took my time to appreciate the more subtle nuances of sex. These days the hors d'oeuvre and the dessert are just as mouth-watering as the main course :-) Even reading the menu has one's inner senses working overtime :-)
