Is Anyone Else’s Horniness Solar Powered?

So, just in time to welcome June in, the weather has heated up. The sun is shining, the birds are singing (I’m having to buy hay fever tablets again) and all feel glorious in the world. Weather wise, anyway.



But the thing my friends and I talk about every year when it starts getting warmer is that our libidos all seem to be supercharged at this time of the year. It’s rather strange and could be down to a number of reasons, but if I’m honest, I’m constantly bloody horny at the moment. Even when I’m knackered having not slept properly in days, I’m just chronically sighing, consumed with a desire to get it on!



Of course, there’s the situation when it’s too hot and you just wouldn’t want anyone touching you. You know, those days where it’s so warm you can’t seem to cool down, your limbs feel heavy and your feet are swollen, it feels like there’s no air and you’re just constantly clammy? Where it’s so stifling that every few minutes you consider emptying the freezer just so you can climb in? I just couldn’t imagine anyone touching me in that situation and I’d probably bark “Don’t touch me!” If anyone came within a couple of feet. I’ll put it this way, when it gets TOO hot, it’s just not sexy.


But what about that sweet spot of good weather that starts around the end of May and into June? That’s when my apparently solar powered libido decides it’s going into overdrive. Now, one theory could be that the warmer weather naturally makes us want to wear less and we could just be confusing this with a desire to just get naked and do fun things. That could be part of it. It also means that there’s generally more skin on display wherever you go, so that could have something to do with it as well. I’ve just nearly been taken out mere moments ago by a trio of sweaty, shirtless builders as I walked into the coffee shop I often find myself working in. Pure testosterone and rippling muscles – That classic bit of rough that nearly makes my heart give out. Yeah, I’ve got it bad. But the increased level of shirtless men and thighs on display don’t help when you’re craving a jolly good seeing to!



The other possible explanation for me and my gang at home is that we might actually have been subconsciously trained to get hornier at this time of year. Hear me out on this one. Where we live, there’s usually a big motorcycle festival the last week of May and first week of June. Bikers and bike fans come from all over the world for the races and to have a good time for two weeks. There’s an entertainment village referred to as The Beer Tent, which is a giant bar in a marquee nest to a huge stage where there are bands on day and night many street food sellers. The park it’s in is absolutely packed out and the fortnight is just as much of a party for the locals as it is for the visitors. Rumour has it, the island’s population almost doubles (I could have believed that years ago) and every pub and club is heaving and often open longer hours. It’s a hell of a festival.


So around mid-May on the Isle of Man, you’ll hear the distant roars of bikes and the faint whiff of two-stroke in the air and frankly, that’s just associated with sexy foreign men in leathers. It’s something we’re just used to now. And when we were a little younger, we’d be out the whole two weeks. I’ll never understand how we had the cash to do it, but somehow we managed it. We were bloody brilliant back then and there was basically as much sex as you could shake a… well, a dick at. If you were really lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) a biker might take you back to their tent at one of the TT campsites (if you’re really, really lucky, he might have a hot friend who’d be up for a good time too!) If a tent isn’t your thing, there’s always a nice lane or a field – you probably won’t have much luck getting a hotel room though, as they’re all booked up months in advance and much more heavily priced. My god, we’ve had some good times over the years. Shame Covid has got in the way over the last two and the festival has been cancelled. That doesn’t mean our hormonal body clocks aren’t on full alert right now.



Maybe it’s our TT routine, maybe it really is the warmer weather, but I’m up to get out there and have a good time, whether that contains dicks or not. There’s always the possibility, of course, that I’m just stupidly horny all year round and just notice it more when it starts to heat up. Or maybe there is something to the ‘solar powered libido’ theory after all. It would certainly explain why holiday romances are such a thing (and nothing to do with the extra booze and lack of inhibitions from being where you don’t know anyone). Who knows? Either way, whenever you decide to get it on, make sure it’s fun and make sure it’s safe. And preferably not in a lane or a dreadful campsite (though if needs must…)
