Sexual Superstitions From Around The World and Throughout History

This Thursday is Defy Superstition Day and about forgetting the seemingly silly superstitions for some but what are for others actually a big obstacle and may be a case of easier said than done for them to overcome. Throughout history, superstition has even creeped into sex, with this week’s blog we have some sexual superstitions from around the globe and the expanse of recorded history.


What Big Lips You Have
We’ve all heard the superstition that men with big feet are packing big in the trouser department. But what about women? Many believe that the size of a woman’s mouth indicates the size of her lips, and no we don’t mean the ones on the face. If that were true however, getting lip fillers and making your facial lips bigger would mean that the labia would expand also.

You’re So Vain
Mirrors everywhere in your boudoir? According to some of the superstitious from Thailand, you could be at risk of becoming obsessed with sex to the point that it interferes with your everyday life. The belief is that this is a result of watching yourself get down to business through your reflection and so they warn against placing mirrors in your bedroom. If going to pound town night and day is your idea of a good time then keep on looking and install yourself a mirrored ceiling, you feisty fuckers.

Snake Eyes
Plan on hitting the casino anytime soon? There’s a Chinese belief that if you want to score big on the gambling tables then you might want to wait until after you’ve hit the jackpot to get lucky as emptying your deck before hitting the tables will somehow also splurge all your good fortune.

Stuck on You
No good will come from having sex on Good Friday. Good Friday is one of the holiest days on the Christian calendar, and according to Filipino lore, anyone who dishonours the holiday by getting busy will be repaid with a pretty unique curse -- they’ll be “stuck” to their partner for at least 24 hours. I don’t know about you but 10 minutes is long enough for me.

Two Left Feet
Do you avoid the dance floor because you are as graceful as a bull in a china shop? Then you should head to Colombia, where having two left feet isn’t necessarily a bad thing. During the Chichimaya dance, women try to trip the object of their affection. If they’re successful, their dance partner becomes their sex partner.

Eyes On The Prize
Averting your eyes while toasting will curse you with seven years of bad sex...at least, that’s what many Germans believe. The next time you clink glasses, make sure you hold your gaze each time your glasses meet. Better safe than sorry, right?
