What's in a word? definitive questions

12:09 am Tuesday, 26th November, 2013

I am a word nerd. I love etymology, definitions, and how words change over time. These words have caught my attention lately, so I looked them up (no idea of their origins—yet):

Swinger: a person who swaps sexual partners in a group, especially habitually; a person who engages freely in promiscuous sex.

Promiscuous: Having casual sexual relations frequently with different partners; indiscriminate in the choice of sexual partners.

Player: One who actively seeks out sexual partners and carries on a number of sexual affairs at the same time.

Horny: a. Desirous of sexual activity. b. Sexually aroused.

Sexy: Arousing or tending to arouse sexual desire or interest.

Lascivious: 1. Given to or expressing lust; lecherous. 2. Exciting sexual desires; salacious.

Fun: A source of enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure.

Polyamory: the practice, desire, or acceptance of having more than one intimate relationship at a time with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved. It is distinct from swinging (which emphasizes sex with others as merely recreational) and may or may not include polysexuality (attraction towards multiple genders and/or sexes).

Which am I? Many days I really wonder.

Which are you?

What other words should be on this list, and what are your definitions?

This is vaguely reminiscent of my spoof urban dictionary blog a while back :-)

I'm definitely lascivious :-)
One thing that's been in the back of my mind for ages is the use of the word "fun" in the context of shagging on sites like this.

Of course everyone has their own depth of interpretation, but "fun" when equated with sex seems, to me, a rather frivolous and shallow expression to describe something primal and deeply rewarding. It's pleasurable to be sure, but describing it as "fun" conjures up a picture of merry-go-rounds or dodgems :-)

Of course, for some people, maybe that's exactly what sex is: frivolous and inconsequential.

My daughter told me that OED have announced the inclusion of the word 'Selfie'.

That's real progress for the narcissistic photographers amongst us. Who me ..... ?

Yes apparently Selfie was voted the most significant new word of 2013.

Dixon is definitely the more narcissistic siamese twin, as you can see from my profile, but he still struggles a bit with Selfies.

Skebbie, I wasn't trying to repeat your blog, by the way; I've been called a lot of words by various people, and am just in a mood to figure them all out. As well as find a few more that describe me better. Suggestions welcome....as long as they're nice.

EG: Don't worry, I'm cool. "Vaguely reminiscent" means just that :-)

EG descriptors? Well, looking at your profile, "mysterious" or "intriguing" would certainly come to mind, but as we've never met I guess that's about as far as I can go for now.... :-)xx

Ron: You're too self-depreciating: but maybe that's your secret weapon :-) Looking forward to meeting you in Dec for a few pints and jolly good back-slapping totally non-gay straight camaraderie :-)

Ron: Sadly, my global empire of dusky maidens does not extend to northern Cumbria. But I'm looking forward to chewing the fat about common probs in the adult dating game.

Dusky maidens? How about fat middle aged women with warts? Still fancy that meet, Ron?

I love words and find they can be far more of a turn-on than pictures. I wonder if there is a great schism though on this point (like a dog vs cat lover, sea vs mountains etc)?

I think the word, confusion should be on the list EG, just to give a male perspective

1:46 am Wednesday, 27th November, 2013

CONFUSION:
1.a. The act of confusing or the state of being confused
b. An instance of being confused
2. Psychology Impaired orientation with respect to time, place, or person; a disturbed mental state.

Ro, I am guessing you're referring to the last one?

10:22 am Wednesday, 27th November, 2013

lol, yep ill go with that one eg.

I love etymology too - can't get enough of those bugs img src="imagesadultemoticons030.gif"

I love a lot of the words used to describe body shapes, such as:-
Bathykolpian - deep-bosomed
Callipygian - having a nice shaped bum
Spheripygian - having a nicely rounded bum
Mignon - small and cute, pretty in a delicate way
Zaftig - full-bosomed, having a full, shapely figure

If anyone has any more (or if anyone fits those descriptions *wink*), I'd love to hear from you...

I used to think "innuendo" was the Italian word for "suppository" until I found this site...

Penalized there's a word. Or omniscient.xximg src="imagesadultemoticons030.gif"

Voluptuous has a ring of sensual decadence about it that I adore. Climactic and eruption are also pretty powerful. The fruminous bandersnatch sounds like it could be used for a multitude of purposes!

12:12 am Friday, 29th November, 2013

personally, VOLUPTUOUS is a word I adore, and was used to describe me once, along with Rubenesque, (which was actually used at least once by someone who I didn't know knew the meaning of)...fits me to a T

5:36 am Friday, 29th November, 2013

I am beginning to feel we should have a lascivious, promiscuous, voluptuous love in!

Skebbie: 'Fun' is a nice catch-all term that can emcompass every sex act thinkable, without being specific or explicit.
