What we'd do is exchange a few emails for a bit, then most likely talk on the phone to set up a date to get together, in a casual environment. We'd go to a nice cafe or resturant where we could talk, get to know each other, and where we wouldn't think so much about how we met, but more about who we are, enjoy ourselves, and take it from there!
