Mark James is a london based photographer, specialising in fine art and reportage photography. Mark's current project, The Anonymous Body Project, samples of which can be seen at his gallery on the photographers website, (enter "Mark James" in the search box), featured non professional and often first time female models in nude or partially nude poses. The theme of the series was that no models' faces would be shown. The inspiration for this was the principle that it is not nudity as such that people are often inhibited about, but that they can be identified: this is the reason that many people have no inhibitions about being naked or topless on a beach packed with thousands of strangers, but would be horrified if a colleague or neighbour saw them undressed.
Mark's next project is reportage documenting the swinging scene in Britain. Like many people, Mark is fascinated by the rise of the swinging scene, and the change that this rise represents in Britain's traditional culture of repressed sexuality. The aim of the project is not titillation, but a record of the scene, which is still usually treated in a sensationalist manner in the media. Again, all photography will be consensual and anonymous. The resulting photographic series will be available on a free access website, and will not be sold or reproduced for commercial gain, other than as part of the photographer's published work.
