I am one of those very rare occurences in nature -- a hermaphrodite. I was born with physical and psychological characteristics of both sexes ie a phallus and testicles plus ovaries. The doctors who attended my case did not understand this phenomenon perhaps, and advised my parents to bring me up as a girl. At the age of 14, without my consent and without giving me time to think of the repercussions, the penis was amputated. It was a huge blunder that would haunt me for the rest of my life.
At puberty, I began to realize that I was ' different '. I was developing more male characteristics than female ones. There was a little breast development, but also more body hair, more musculature, more endurance etc. And there was a distinct attraction towards girls. I was so confused. Another 14 years passed in extreme agony & anxiety.
Finally I could not take it anymore, and decided that I could not live the remaining life under pretense. I would be more at ease leading life as a man. The same doctors were still around and again tried to mislead me into thinking that there was nothing wrong with me and that I was a normal ' female ' Only one doctor understood my case, and he explained the meaning of hermaphroditism to me. I underwent certain surgeries for the removal of breast tissue and the testo-ovaries. It was a liberating day, the day that I could emerge from the mask that had been suffocating me for 28 years, to just be my own self and live my own life.
From there I had to pick up my life and also make up for the lost decade. I had to achieve financial stability, because I come from a borderline middle-class family. I had to educate myself, because my formal education was nothing to be proud of. So I pushed myself to the limits and beyond. I worked and worked ; read and absorbed enormous amounts of material on varied subjects ; and I gathered and put into practice info about health and youth preservation -- all with the singular goal of not having to slog after age forty, and simply to enjoy life thereafter without having to worry constantly about money.
By the grace of God and sheer willpower, all these goals have been met before time. At 40, I look maybe ten years younger, also am athletic, presentable, humorous, never boring. I did not go for the final surgery of penile reconstruction [ very painful, long-drawn-out and may or may not be successful ], so I cannot do intercourse with a woman ...
