During my college summers I met Fern LeDuc, a logger working for Boise Cascade Pulp and Paper Co. out of the Kenora, Lake of the Woods area in northwestern Ontario. Fern was part Metis, part French Canadian. His forefathers were probably the French voyageurs who opened up the interior of North America to European exploration during the 16th, 17th, & 18th C. A part of Fern’s life philosophy was that when turned on our heads “...we’re just sisters and brothers of various hues and colours.” 45 years later... Fern was right.
