I moved back to SB & started a research position at UCSB–where I got by PhD–after a 5 year postdoc in Boston (MIT). Academia is great for autonomy and flexibility, but money comes slowly. Finally my new job pays better, so I can afford and better enjoy the universal pleasures: food, drink, art, travel, and obvious activities given this site ;-P Those activities are usually better with partners in crime, and you might be just such a (lucky) person!
