Despite my somewhat damaged front cover (Type 1 diabetes and chronic imbalance, dizziness and vertigo - my head got in the way of a metal pipe wielded by a determined street mugger that fractured my skull in several places seven years ago - I'm sure that pipe wound up in worse shape than my head) - I'm physically and mentally active.
Although I'm now OFFICIALLY retired (I worked for 25 years as a journalist and then afterwards for eight years as a Chicago Public Schools teacher-librarian), I spend much of my time pushing for truly affordable housing across the city, promoting immigrant rights and working to elect more progressive political candidates.
Reading, writing, history, cooking, sports (go White Sox, although Cubs fans are also welcome - except for Sunday home games - silver and black are the new red, white and blue) are among the many passions in my quite busy life.
