Can anyone advise me of how to make contact with like--minded people

I'm looking to enhance my experiences but am struggling to find where to go near Basildon. Forgive my inexperence but any advice would be welcome. I have been told of a place at One Tree Hill but have driven there several times and nothing appears to happen - or am I looking in the wrong place.
