Estim safety

Whilst Estim used carefully is safe there are a few precautions which should be observed. Firstly it is not generally recomended for epileptics, people with existing heart problems, pacemakers, medical infusion systems or the pregnant.

It is ill advised to allow stimulation currents through the central chest area as this can cause irregular heart rhythms and could cause serious complications. To avoid the risk of having stim signals passing through the chest the general advice is to keep all connections below the waist. One possibly exception to this is specifically designed nipple clamps which use paired contacts to direct the current specifically through the flesh held in the jaws of the clamp.

You should also be aware that it is very tempting to grab an electrode when you can feel it peeling off or sliding out. If you do grab an electrode you will almost certainly have current pass across you chest so you either need increadable place of mind and self control so that you always turn the control box off before moving the electrode or wear medical style exam gloves to insulate you.

Conductive lube

Something else I should have mentioned is that with electrodes other than the gel TENS pads you should probably be using conductive lube which is commercially available. Conductive lubes are water based lubes usually with an added charge carrier dissolved into the lube which is typically bicarbonate. The conductive lube ensures good electrical contact between the body and electrode which should avoid painful hot spots. Dont be tempted to use silicon lubes with conductive tubber electrodes they are not compatable.
