The Single Male and Swinging

i like this one. my partner and i recently attended a party and spoke to a couple who are 'legends' on the swinging circuit. They expressed the opinion that there is no such thing as a single swinger. having heard their argument for this i ended up agreeing with it.
Swinging is something that started life as wife swapping is it not?
if you haven't got a partner then can you swing?
if single people can swing then what is swinging by definition?
its a meaty subject and i'd appreciate hearing anyones opinion on it.
but do me a favour...........dont go on the attack because i had an opinion, someone presented an alternative view which i respect and i'm happy to hear other opinions.
