Sometimes I fall for a sad story

11:25 pm Monday, 20th May, 2013

When a girl tells me things are very bad. She has a little child and no money for food. Her electricity is going to be shut off. She will do anything for a little financial help. She will fly to meet me. She will spend a night with me. Just help. No groceries. Nothing to feed my child.

So I send money. Really do not expect her to come through on meeting, and she doesn't. Was the story true? Probably not. But I am one of those easy marks. I carry $25 gift cards to MacDonalds in my pocket. I give away a couple a week to those supposedly homeless people on the streets.

I have been very fortunate. While I have worked hard for what I have gotten, still I feel fortunate.

So once again when in Vegas there was a girl online who begged for money. I sent $950. I should have sent less. Probably a stupid thing to do. So now she is back and telling me she was in a car accident and going to receive a $235,000 settlement. But she needs cash for groceries. Wait a minute! I sent $950 last week and none is left? You said you were going to use some of it to buy a plane ticket to come see me. (I did not believe that--but ok). You don't like to fly. You were going to drive from North Carolina to Las Vegas? Didn't you tell me you were going to use it for a plane ticket? And you were going to buy groceries?

No... I sent money once. Not again.. Write sucker for a sad story on my forehead. Write stupid there too. But also write, NO MORE MONEY FOR YOU.

I do admire your altruism. I also endeavor to give a head of receiving, but it always explodes in my face, too.
