A stranger 's night with off nights

This was magical. I went to a Halloween party at the restaurant/bar, L A Nicola’s. There was a young woman sitting at the bar wearing a short green wig. I thought she was beautiful but the place was very crowded and she was constantly surrounded by eager young men so I was never able to make anything but brief eye contact with her.When the bar had to close at two, she started to leave alone. While I tried to invent a way to approach her, I saw her reach behind the bar and steal a bottle of champagne on ice. As the bar’s owner, Larry Nicola, was a dear friend who often comped me, I just couldn't let this happen. I intercepted her, took the bottle from her, put a finger to my lips and whispered “wait here.”I approached Larry and asked how much to buy the bottle. He said he couldn’t sell it after 2am but that I could have it.I presented her with the bottle and asked if we could share it at my place, no strings attached. She was wisely reluctant until some cocktail waitresses, who were busy sharing their tips and eavesdropping, chimed in and vouched for me.At my house, we sat outside by the pool and drank the champagne. It started to rain but we were under one of those Cinzano umbrellas and it was just too romantic to move. I learned that she was French, working for a rich family in Beechwood canyon as an over aged and underpaid au pair girl, was very lonely and looking forward to returning home to Fance the next week.Eventually, we made it into the house and into the bedroom, at which point she started to remove her wig. I begged her not to as, to my mildly inebriated eyes, she couldn't possibly look any more beautiful than she did. I was wrong and she knew it. She ignored my request and released a shower of golden curls.The sex was as good as it's ever been for me but when she left at dawn to make breakfast for her host family's kids, we both knew we had little in common and would never see each other again.Two days later, I ran into her at the Beechwood Cafe. Having already said our passionate goodbyes, it was a little ordinary, awkward even, and I kind of wish it hadn't
