The vice named Overconfidence

I was fresh out of college and had just moved back to my hometown Hyderabad. I had grown accustomed to the college dorms and this particular summer was super dry. The heat was unbearable. To kill time, work off the excess energy and to cool off, I used to do laps at the swimming pool near Sainikpuri.


One fine day, I was doing my laps as usual. Earlier on, a group of recruits from ECIL were swimming in the adjacent lane and approached me to teach them how to swim. I spent about 10 minutes teaching these guys before starting my laps.


I was nearing the end of my 40 laps when i first saw her. Though I only caught a brief glimpse while swimming I could tell she was a strong swimmer. As it was summer, the pools were crowded and seeing that the guys in the adjacent lane had stopped swimming, she started swimming there.


I finished my 40 laps and as usual decided to hang at the deep end to avoid the crowd. The other group of guys were also there and she was finding it difficult to take a push off the wall at the deep end. I kept to myself as I dint want to interfere in other peoples business.


She was a confident girl. When she finished swimming, she came to the deep end and parked herself between me and the group. It was then that I first noticed her build. She was almost my height. She was covered from head to toe in her swimming attire. The only skin she showed were her palms and her face, which was adorned by her Speedo swim google, which were currently sitting on her forehead. There was no mistaking that this girl was fit as hell. Even though it was semi dark by then, I could not help but notice how her swimming costume stuck to her well defined lean muscular contours.


Meanwhile, those guys huddled and started plotting something. One of them came up and challenged her for a race. She took my lane without a word and got ready. What confidence. The moment they pushed off the wall, there was no doubt who'd win. This triggered the guys and the remaining all challenged her. Even though this pissed her off, she just took stance once again.


Her strokes cut the water like a knife and the guys ended splashing and swimming into each other. Major victory for the lady.


One by one they pulled back to the deep end of the pool, coming closer to her. Even though she was a confident young woman, she understood that things could easily go out of hand here and she her body betrayed her confidence by backing towards me. It was at this moment that i held her hand underwater and tugged her from behind and in the same movement, pushed myself between her and the vultures.


Although i was super fit, it was still a tense and precarious moment. Five vs one usually ends the same way unless you are bruce lee. And i was definitely not him. Even though they outnumbered us, i guess it being a public place and me standing between them and their prey, somehow demotivated their approach. I told them to accept their defeat honorably. They murmured a few good words and moved away from us.


As I turned towards back, I was greeted by her furious face which could only be described as a tigress. She said that she was strong and confident and could take care of herself and BLAH, BLAH, BLAH,.. My mind was being pessimistic as usual and sarcastically hinting at me to mind my own business. But she had stoked the flame and it had to be quenched. To shut her up I challenged her to a race. She rolled her eyes like I was a pushover just like the guys she just dusted.


So we set the rules, both of us push off at the count of three. the first to reach the other end wins.


We pushed off and I could see how she defeated those guys so easily. Her form was excellent and the way she cut the water that day could put most swimmers to shame. The pool is only 35m long and i usually do it in one breath underwater.


Her technique was excellent and being extermely lean she pulled off the wall effortlessly. She was swimming freestyle and gained an early lead, with me slightly behind, beside her. I could see her abdomen muscles relax and flex in tandem with her strokes. Damn! it was hot. This damsel was as graceful as a mermaid.


Nevertheless, I was a decent swimmmer myself and was gaining on her with every stoke. And overtook her only two strokes before the other end. Both of us clearly saw my hand touch the wall first. I lingered underwater for a second longer than necessary and came out gasping for air. Thus vixen's challenge was intense and arousing. I never realised I had a boner till her eyes darted down. Realisation dawned upon me and i immediately stood facing the wall. That was when she giggled.


We made decent conversation after that. I got to know that she lived nearby and had cone to cool off. She was an accomplished professional and had won many medals in swimming. She also admitted that she was over confident going into the race and didnt expect me to win.


We had a lot of things in common and kept talking about random stuff. I never realised how close we had moved to each other till we were looking at each other in the eyes. Her raw sexual appeal was overpowering my senses and looking at the hint of lust in her eyes, i could tell she was feeling the same.


The reverie was broken by the bell signalling that the facility closes in 10 minutes. She hinted at exchanging phone numbers. Being the oversmart overconfident asshole i was, I told her im good with numbers and decided to memorise the same.


Sadly, my memory dint serve me well that day and i failed to remember her number. I think I saw her waiting near the entrace for me but i wasnt sure of it was the same person.


Both of us lost that day. Her overconfidence made her lose the race and mine cost me her number.
