First hand experience is so much better than hearing things second hand. I against orders made the 300 mile round trip to visit my Mum on Saturday and had a relatively pleasant surprise, she was looking almost her normal self! I had been told that she was looking really bad, but aside from being a bit weaker and having the shakes a little (from medication side effects), she was in fine form and able to laugh and joke about some of the side effects of the treatment she is on.
I had gone down expecting the worst but hoping for the best and got even better than I was hoping for. I am still waiting to hear for definite but she believed that she is going home today.
There is still a lot to go and it is early days but the Macmillan Nurses have said that from the way she has responded so far things are looking promising.
One thing I must say is that the Macmillan Nurses deserve medals for the way they look after their patients.
