This is what it sounds like and probably just as awkward. However, silent speed dating is on the rise and popping up everywhere. There are different terms for it including ‘Ssh Dating” and ‘Eye Gazing Parties’, apparently there is even now such a thing as ‘Silent Disco Speed Dating’..hmmn, we think we’ll pass on a party with people bopping away to no music but silent speed dating however, could that actually work?
Silence Is Golden
Despite what we’ve been taught that you get to know someone by talking to them about their life, having a laugh with them and generally using speech as the main form of communication to bond, abandoning the conversation may actually help two people become closer. This is down to relying on the other senses such as sight and being able to correctly perceive one another’s body language easier as what is spoken is no longer taken into account and there to confuse any messages the two daters may be sending each other.
The Eyes Say It All
A major technique for flirting is to use eye contact, due to the lack of talking a copious amount of eye contact are involved and may help increase the chemistry and attraction between two fellow silent flirters. An issue with being silent and no conversation going between a pair may be that there is more time for scrutinisination of appearance and more opportunity to make appearance based assumptions.
Perhaps we do talk too much and communicate too little with our partners nowadays and a little silence would be a good thing, trying to enact that you have dogs or that your favourite past time is playing the trumpet could be hilarious to watch. So as you pass from table to table staring into each strangers eyes, just remember to have a laugh if nothing else and that any one of these mute daters could be your future partner as by the sounds of it, silent speed dating could be more effective than the standard, predictable trivial small talk filled dating.
