There’s a bi-curious side to all of us

7:50 am Thursday, 4th December, 2008

Whether you’re a heterosexual or a homosexual it’s popular believe that most adults crave an alternative sexual encounter known as bisexual dating.

According to Sigmund Freud every adult has the ability to become bisexual or bi-curious at some stage in their lives. In other words most adults will have the tendency to satisfy their sexual needs and desires by fantasizing about the same sex and sometimes even acting on that fantasy by taking part in bisexual dating.

So what does it mean to be bi? The technical explanation is that this sexual orientation refers to individuals or bisexual couples being sexually attracted to the opposite sex and their own gender. Being bisexual can get complicated because not all bisexual women and bisexual men encounter equal attraction to men and women. Through their lives their attraction for alternative genders may shift and they will encounter that they have a desire to sexually engage with a certain gender sometimes more than other times.

This alternative sexual desire can happen at any time in your life from when you are a horny teenager to when you enter your experienced middle ages. This bi phase can disappear just as quickly as it started. Look at Angelina Jolie, it wasn’t that long ago that she proclaimed herself a bisexual woman and talked in great detail about her escapades with women and men. Now that she’s got Brad Pitt on her arm her bisexual behavior have dried up and she sticking to having sex with just one gender in the bedroom. We cannot be sure why Miss Jolie decided to give up her bisexual women title but according to Professor Marjorie Garber we can blame repression, religion, repugnance and denial, but to name a few factors, as reasons for why not more people are bisexual.

In a study that was conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics in 2002, it was determined that more women between the ages of 18-44 called themselves bi than men. You’ll find that if partners calls themselves a bisexual couple it is often that the women is the one getting it on with other bisexual women while the husband or boyfriend stands on the sideline and watches. He may or may not join in on the action and form a threesome but because he does not have sex with another man he doesn’t fall into the bisexual men category. A lot of straight men call themselves bisexual men because of peer pressure of their friends and a homophobia community that they may be part of.

You also get bi-curious adults who are traditionally heterosexual but are interested in experimenting with homosexuality. It’s always a good idea to find out if someone is a homosexual or just a heterosexual that supports gays. Most of us have a homosexual and heterosexual side to us, regardless of our sexual orientation and just the intensity of these two sides can differ from one adult to the next.
