Is nudism new to Sri lanka

In an age were 50% of Sri lanka's internet traffic is porn, I wandered when Sri Lankan men became so fascinated by the female body.
If we look back on the history of Sri Lanka during the period of the great Sinhala kings, it was common for them to have large herms or short for prostitutes. In fact, some of them have had as many as a thousand females.
Further the Sigiriya rock images show how female princes were dress at that time. Bare breasted.

As late as the 19 the century pictures of then Ceylon showed some women were bare breasted.



It must be noted that most of our mother and grand mothers used to wear Sarees and Traditional dress which both showed there belles even before it was fashionable to do so in the west in the year 2000.
It has always been common to see women bathing in the river in our village in semi nude fashion while little children both girls and boys would bath in the village tank usual naked.
Our father who were famers would wear only line cloth when working in the fields.


I indigenous natives of Sri Lanka always use to only wear tree leave as cloths. Also in the resent past it was common to see in pubic transport many mothers breast feeding their children. But despite this women and mother were respected in society at large.

So why have we become so self-conscious about ourselves. Nudism is nothing new to Sri Lankans.
I believe the reason being religion though some may prefer to blame western influences. Religious leaders since the 1950’s have been preaching alien religious doctrine to Sri lankan’s in order to show their over piousness.
This has led to a sexual crisis in the form of porn epidemic. This has further impacted todays generation by making some Sri Lankan women overly shy to even being nude in front of their husbands is difficult. Some women do not like doctors conducting examinations of there private parts even when they are pregnant.
The shyness of Sri Lankan (SL) women has resulted Sri Lankan men seeking extra marital affairs. We see that the devoice rate in SL being high as any western countries. And of course, prostitution is common. It is estimated SL has over 50,000 prostitutes. Some like to conveniently blame western media.
Other religious leader who cannot preach a proper sermon today try to force alien beliefs, together with corrupt and dishonest politicians by passing laws to conform us to these beliefs.
What we need to do is to take the magic out of a women’s body. This only can be achieved by accepting nudism and practising it. It can be as small as having bath together with our children.
When I got married via proposal, I had the same problem with my wife. While I manage to convince her give up her virginity before marriage, she would not be comfortable to have a bath with me in the toilet. However, after we migrated Canada I was able to take her to a nude beach several times and she is more comfortable with herself now.
But I cannot say the same for her younger sister who is 29 and still is uncomfortable come out wearing a towel in front of her parents. And my sister in law wanted to sissarian operation as she did not like idea of a doctor delivering the baby. She said she did not like the doctor seeing her private parts. I believe her husband still has not seen a full nude.
This might sound fiction to some but is the sad reality. Sex and sexuality is not enjoyed but has become method to an end.
So lets encourage nudism to build self confidence in the next generation Sri Lankan.
