Fake profiles and scammers

8:15 pm Wednesday, 22nd February, 2012

Everyone has probably had the message out of the blue from a premium member who appears on the surface to have a normal profile.

But, often when you try to read the message it is in broken english with poor grammar.

I decided to indulge one such person now removed from site, and gave them an e-mail address for another account i don't use much, and they replied as they always need to get you on some other site to work the scam easier.

I had a real belly laugh at the unfortunate individuals catastrophic experiences, namely the parents dying within days of each other and various other calamities, obviously this was working up to the coup de grace of asking for a tempoary loan, or whatever to alleviate their financial straits.

The upshot is that this attempt was so clumsy and amateurish to be laughable but some are very much smarter and patient, so be warned if you get messages from premium members with appalling english, even allowing for them being from overseas, the overall tone is very uneducated in most cases.

Some have a different agenda and will just try to get you to take a guest membership of their site, ostensibly to get your identity confirmed and which means joining via your debit/credit card.

And then expecting a refund or no payment taken when you are confirmed, but of course by this time you would be a member and no refund would be forthcoming, they are normally on commission to do this sort of scam.
