Texting or speaking??

4:07 pm Thursday, 15th December, 2011

I spent a large portion of yesterday afternoon and evening sat on my ass driving, doing something and then driving again. So when I eventually set off for the drive home, I texted a friend of mine to see whether or not she fancied a drink when I arrived home.

Now I hasten to add, that although this friend and I have had some very enjoyable and wild nights effectively fucking eachothers' brains out over the past few years, last night, all I fancied was either to leave the car at home and have a few glasses of wine, or take the car pick her up, have a glass of wine and then return home (a good session would have been great, but wasn't expected or hinted at), either way, I wasn't going to be home alone sat on my ass watching crap TV. Cutting a long story short, she decided to stay in, and not meet me for a drink. I on the other hand put the car in the garage, and walked to my local.

It was whilst in the pub chatting to a friend, I started getting text messages from an old school days girlfriend who I've always stayed friendly with, and who has recently been through a divorce. The gist of the messages was home alone, kids in bed, feeling lonely, feeling horny, you could call round and so on. Anyway, I caved, and instead of going home I went to hers.

As I got there, I sent a text saying I was a couple of minutes away, and as I approached the door I heard the key turn. As I hadn't had a reply to say "the doors open" or "come on in" I assumed she had locked the door on her way to bed, so I went to my house, and went to my bed.

Twenty minutes later, I got a text asking me where was I? Was I on my way? I replied I heard the door locking, and had gone home to bed. she said she had been unlocking the door!

Now the point to all this mindless ramble, is that although texting can be a laugh, and can help set the scene, and depending on how suggestive the texts, set the mood, it should not be used as an "instead" of talking. If we had spoken last night as opposed to just texting, who knows what enjoyable heights we could have taken eachother to!!

I agree, I much prefer to talk than text or use MSN as both can give the wrong impression
