Another quick thought...

The trouble here is that nobody would even consider calling a real girl or woman who likes to dress in a masculine fashion or male clothes a cross-dresser or transvestite, even though by doing so they actually meet the criteria of any dictionary definition. A woman dressed in trousers, a wide shouldered jacket, shirt and tie and a trilby hat is just "power-dressing"; and if she's just wearing male jeans and a football shirt she's just relaxing, dressing down or gardening.

Having said that, yes, there are some women who do consider themselves to be transgendered and just like their male counterparts go to great lengths to present as the opposite gender.

There are also some female to male (FtM) transsexual guys out there, although they tend to refer to themselves as "Trans-men". I used to know one trans-man a few years ago. They tend to make up a smaller percentage of the "Trans" community, in most cases because as I said at the beginning, a woman wearing male clothes is generally accepted wherever she goes as just making another fashion statement.
