Foreword: Can anyone tell me why "Sad" is the default mood setting that appears in the "blog box" when first putting pen to paper? In fact why is there a "mood setting" at all, as readers don't seem to have any way of monitoring a blogger's affective state? If it's of any reassurance, I can assure my fans that I'm always "calm" :-) Anyway......
Lately I've been thinking about us poor blokes on this site, teeming like so many millions of spermatozoa, swimming frantically in desperate search of those elusive and very picky ova, which we vastly outnumber. Thoughts then extend to the criteria by which these picky ova allow those lucky few sperms to.....er......fertilize them: again metaphorically speaking :-)
I've always been very interested in comparing sexual mores, memes and attitudes among cultures, and during the time I've been on this site, I've formed an impression that "Western" women (i.e. for the purpose of argument, the majority of those using this site) have rather conventional and traditional criteria for choosing male sexual partners. The image that comes to mind is one of "Brawn, Brylcreem and Bravado": i.e. a relatively young chap who has nice pecs and biceps, enjoys his sport, cars and bikes, and is full of cheeky Cockney barrow-boy facetiousness and jocularity. He may have spent some time in HM Forces, where he acquired a little tattoo collection, has dark, not too dense designer stubble, and now holds down a decent job with a bank or City firm, to which he wears nice suits and carries a smartphone with all the latest Apps. He likes hair mousse, and thinks wearing sunglasses makes him look cool. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but his broad shoulders, square jaw and ready smile are completely disarming, and women are willing to forgive him anything.
I suppose the reason I'm writing this is that I'm none of those things :-) I haven't done badly for myself in the decade or so I've been "adult dating", but I sometimes wonder if I'd adopted any of the above characteristics whether I'd have done better in the UK ovum-sperm race. OK I freely admit that I'm probably an oddball on this site, and probably somewhat adrift from modern UK attitudes. But one huge difference I've noted when trying to get online dates in Japan is that women are far more attuned to blokes who are a bit "arty" and "sensitive". Talking about seasonal festivals, woodblock prints, movies or food gets appreciated far more than would be the case if I started on similar themes with UK women, and in fact I'd probably be considered "weedy" and "slightly effeminate" :-) So what tips would you women give a weedy bloke like me to improve my chances of "scoring" here in the UK? I promise I won't take offence (haha.......).

You're probably right about the "geezer" you describe there skebbie. I'm sure he probably does have more success than us mere mortals, but we can only ever be ourselves. |

Don't get me wrong, Joe: I'm happy to be me too. It's just that I sometimes wonder whether there'd be any profit to be had in being more of a "diamond geezer" :-) I refuse to get a wrongly spelt Japanese tattoo, though :-) |

Ron: No not at all. Basically I just thought we ought to rent ourselves out as a "double-team" combi for women who want a bit extra (shallow I know) from some disarmingly charming guys with a mostly Scots background. You know: maybe some delicate southern ladies who've always fantasized about a bit of far northern rough :-) I suppose I could rabbit on about Marcel Proust or something for those who want their minds appreciated too. |

Relatively speaking the blogspace has been less spirited of late, so I am delighted to see something a little more lively than blogs akin to Woody Allen (for it is he in the news this very morning) who I think once said Well that's enough about me - why don't you talk about me for a while? has emerged, with some excellent contributions from many of the usual suspects. |

I think intelligence is sadly under rated by women when it comes to the sexual partners we pick. Interestingly some psychologists think that women choose different partners for different purposes, ie the men we want to be impregnated by are not the men we want a ltr with. Last Saturday's Guardian had an interesting article saying that the more equitable a relationship was, the worse the sex was. I think there's something in this. I know that the sort of sex I really want is unlikely to be forthcoming in a healthy, respectful ltr. It's a conundrum and I don't know the answer. Wish I did beause then I would have married one of the nice, intelligent men I've dated in the past instead of getting pregnant by 'bad boy' types and then bringing children up by myself. |

you lot are very amusing and entertaining. I'm glad I've stumbled across this blog. I first came across the theory that women want a different type of man for procreationrecreation than the sort they want for ltr when I was studying psychologist. Worst of all from a feminist point of view the hypothesis was that due to our hormones we would choose studly types when fertile and nice nurturing men the rest of the month. I wasn't having any of that crap. I'm not ruled by my female hormones - I'm a rational, sentient being. Having observed my own behaviour in the decade or so since those happy days I'm less convinced by my argument. Quite a lot of studies support this claim, for example it's estimated that at least 30% of children are not fathered by the man supposed to be the father. Some interpretations of that are that women unknowingly have affairs whilst in the fertile part of the menstrual cycle. All I know is there are times when i want it rough and nasty and to be treated in a way in which i wouldn't be comfortable with a lt partner. If i could find a man to combine the two I would probably fall head over heels in love. I haven't got time for falling in love right now (too busy). So I'll settle for a kinky shag session, may instead on three layers of condoms to ensure i don't get

Skebbie, have to agree with the thin ice statement, you only have to watch a wildlife programme on chimps for an hour and you can observe every aspect of human behaviour in full. All the cultural and social embellishments we have surrounded ourselves with, in what is a very recent past, are just a thin veneer that can be observed in the 1 hour film I refer to. Does not sexlove, call it what you will, drive the entire world and might I add,may it long continue to do so.Its removal or redundancy is one evolutionary step I would prefer to miss lol I mean, who would want the sex life of an aphid! Then of course there are the bonito chimps (think thats what they are called) now they have it all sussed lol |

Well.....thought this blog had sunk without trace. Of course weedy intellectual guys will heartily concur with the last three posts (haha....), but - as I say - I've found that the standard UK female mindset with regard to prospective sex partners tends to centre around tattoos, Abs, uniforms, 5 o'clock shadows and designer underpants :-) (And this includes a number of the regular lady bloggers :-) |

Skebbie. I was very interested to read your comment about Japanese ladies. I've played most of the male lead roles in " The Mikado" over the years.Do you think that would go down well in Kyoto,Hokkaido or Honshu ? Perhaps I should become more of " A Wandering Minstrel " then I may have a chance to meet " Three Little Maids " |

Fetch: I'm a G&S fan (which probably serves to repel even more UK women on grounds of geekiness :-) |
|
8:25 am Monday, 10th March, 2014
Skebbie.I do hope that afficionados of G & S are not considered to be geeks by the ladies.Apart from the excellent and beautifully scored music by Sullivan,Gilbert's sublime use of language is great art in itself. That coupled with satire which is quite biting at times, serves to de-bunk institutions which are still relevant as targets today. The Law, Royalty,Inherited wealth,The Church,Politics,Aristocracy to name but a few. Any lady who can appreciate the wit therein cannot surely, consider us to be geeks, can they ? I shall now retreat to my tree by the river and intone " Tit Willow,Tit Willow, Tit Willow " |

Fetch: I hate to disillusion you, but I very much suspect that is the case. But I enjoy being quirky, and quirkiness will always have its fans if you wait long enough: Because of my rural location, genteel Japanese ladies in Tokyo think I'm a hoot because I come out with all this "farmer's vocab", which sounds weird coming from a foreigner :-) |

Skebbie.Upon mature reflection I have to concur that I am indeed,a geek !When I was at the Military Academy,we were given a 24 hour leave pass,so a bunch of us headed up to London. Most made straight for the Soho strip clubs and clip joints.Myself and one other went to the Adelphi Theatre to see the D'Oyly Carte production of " Pirates of Penzance " There was a young soprano making her debut in the principal part of Mabel. She made her entrance, stuck her tits out and belted " Poor Wandering One " at the audience. I instantly fell in love with her. Years later,I had the pleasure of performing with her and recounted this tale much to her amusement. This saga I suppose makes me,if not a geek,a very, very sad person.Ah well,I suppose feminine charms manifest themselves in many different ways but that does not make them less valid if sorry sods like me, derive much pleasure from them. |

Fetch: Strangely, the first record (EP) that I ever bought in my teens was "Excerpts from the Pirates of Penzance" by the Linden Singers (in Woolie's record section....haha). I think that definitely qualifies me for geekdom. |
