Living up to expectations

9:11 am Sunday, 19th January, 2014

Just reading some of the comments on my other blog and notice that there seems to be a few members have had meetings with other members thats obviously haven't lived up to expectation?

But surely the good meets out number the bad?

Do people really lie about themselves to such an extent that first meetings are a shock (good or bad) can profile photos (if there are any) really be so different to the actual person?

be nice to hear positives and negatives

These days I never let myself get into a position where a first meeting has a risk of being an unpleasant shock. I'm always careful to do extensive homework beforehand via e-mailpics. How people express themselves via the written word also speaks volumes.

In the early days I had one or two embarrassing meets, including one where I'd actually booked a weekend away, and I showed up with the lady in question packed and ready to go, with her hubby in the kitchen, arms folded, expecting me to follow through. Under those circumstances it was impossible to pull out and I had to go through with it, even though she was entirely not my type (to put it mildly). However, it was a good lesson, and since then I've made it my policy never to meet anyone until everything is absolutely clear.

I've had good meets. I usually chat someone to death before agreeing to meet them and honestly the only times I was disappointed were a few of the times I was talked into meeting too soon. Then, it was really a case of being interested in very different things. That being said, meets mostly consist of drinks andor lunch.

Funniest meet was the one who showed up looking at LEAST 25 years older than his profile pic; upon asking he said yes, he lied on his profile but it was an accident and he didn't know how to change his age. Then, following a nice meal, he confessed that his name wasn't "George," it was "Fred." Three strikes, you're out, man.

I've found that most are honest and open and exactly who they say they are. Again, it may be because I chat for so long first and you can't usually lie repeatedly and remember it all.

I do feel life is full of surprises! And have had a couple of meets, but all pleasant and enjoyable, I have found people generally honest and are who they are claiming to be........
No regrets here! Just happy go fun memories, looking forward to my next meet........

I've had four meets from this site... three were fantastic and one was okay-ish, as we decided during the meet not to take it any further. Not to say it wasn't a good night though :)
