I was once a tutor for the class of "Chemistry History," it included a laboratory class as well. The class itself was very easy for someone that was born 150 to 200 years too late. I told the ones I tutor, "you can make this class as hard as you want or you can make it as easy as you want." The guys did good in the class, but the ladies was another matter. Most went out to the bars and pickup joints in town. I got tired of being blamed for these students' failures. The professor said, "I have a solution, but you will not like it." He explained that these people thinks this class is a pud, a joke. These chemists were famous in the Victorian and Georgian Era. Why don't you deal out Victorian style punishment to them. One is trying to get into medical training to be a doctor. Tell them that you will help them over material that is difficult. Figuring the lattice and the distances between atoms is very difficult. Nomenclature is very easy, creation of the materials is very easy, but there are two that keeps violating even the simplest of safety rules. I've warned them about it. One of them came in for a tutoring session I had a Victorian stinger sitting beside me. I asked her, "what would've happened in the Victorian Era if you did not study. I told you parts of this class are hard. You spend your time in the joints in town." Her face turned red and she said, "I probably would've been paddled. As small as you are...I can have you. You wouldn't dare." I said, "Try me or you could drop the class. You breeze through your other classes. I am getting tired of wasting my time and your's and you are wasting money." She began to threaten me with a paddling. I told her, "you do and you will be thrown out of the class and possibly the University. You have a choice to make." She agreed to the paddling. I told her, "I am not going to harm you. Trust me." She had tight fitting jeans on and I gave her enough to keep her rear warm through the afternoon. After her paddling I told her, "Dry your eyes. Let's get started. One more failure, you will need to drop the class because there would be no way you can pass it." She wasn't doing poorly on the difficult areas, but the material that was easy, she was getting it wrong. I put this as a rule in my tutoring sessions.
