She'd married well admittedly. He was a powerful lawyer who brokered deals for large corporations. And her husband. She was a kindergarten teacher ...Things were great at the start of the marriage. But as time wore on, and her hubby made the slow laborious climb up the corporate ladder, she found that they were growing increasing distant. He was away from home more often than not, and the so-called spark was fizzling out. She still loved him deeply, of course, but wanted things to be like they were at the start of her marriage.
She had confided in me one day. As a caring and sympathetic next door neighbor, I launched into an explanation about how all marriages get stuck in a rut, some sooner than others. I helpfully suggested that the two plan a weekend get away somewhere. But I was in two minds about helping her, because I had a secret too. I had always found her very attractive, and a part of me prayed that things would get worse between the two.
