In Indian history, there was one festival wherein ladies of few communities used to put their blouses in a dark room. Men are supposed to come and pick one each randomly. Whoever gets the blouse will get to sleep with the woman who owns the blouse.

Wife-swapping or partner-swapping was first report during World War II (1941-1944) that wife swapping activity was known, especially among the US air force pilots who moved their wives close to the bases where unusual social scene of non-monogamy between these pilots' wives and other pilots became satisfactory.

As there would a tomorrow was unsure of, get-to-gathers were organized among colleagues and their wives to say good bye before their planned military operations taking off is when promises made to taking care of their families, including the sexual needs of their wives. These arrangements persisted near the air force bases throughout WW II. By the time the War has ended, these wife swapping groups had spread from bases to the nearby suburbs. By then there were also "key clubs" and this is where the husbands reportedly tossed their house keys into the pile in the center of the room where they were to draw at random by their wives. The owner of a selected key was the sexual partner for that evening.

In 1950's the media first reported these activities in the US and in the military and named it "wife swapping". The very first public decision of wife swapping was published in a magazine in the late 1957 in New York. By surprise many unforeseen aspects of the phenomenon emerged from reader's responses that included information such as of sex clubs especially devoted to trios, foursomes, or even large groups. Sooner, advertisements popped from people trying to contact other couples for swapping.

Over the next couple of years, a large variety of national and local magazines were catering to those in needs of wife swapping. During that time the prime way to meet other like-minded was through personal ads. These publications offered column after column of such ads.

Wife swapping and swinging are forever growing despite considered a sin among religious views. Then again, why not, if it can save the couples becoming victims of stale love life that has the potential of finding the end with a divorce? And if it can help come out of boredom and monotony? Equal rights? How many men in so-called sin-free monogamous life-style haven't slept with other women?
