OIcpl: Walking around Tokyo on a hot summer's day drives me to distraction. On the whole, Japanese women are a lot smaller than their western counterparts, but everything is in proportion and some have truly stunning figures (and they're not all flat-chested, contrary to popular belief). They're quite modest about public displays of cleavage, but their skirts have got to be the shortest in the world, and they know how to display their legs to best advantage :-)

I agree to a point, but the world has a distorted image about how "downtrodden" Japanese women are. The more I look around, the more I'm convinced that Japanese women are thoroughly in charge and enjoying full and rich lives. It's just that they have perfected the art of pulling the strings behind the scenes. It's true that you don't get as many Japanese female CEOs as in the West, but what I see is a very well educated female population who *enjoy* being feminine and who subscribe to "vive la difference". I sometimes think that we in the West have lost a lot of that magic that the sexes can bring to each other as a result of their respective talentsproclivities. At the risk of being "controversial", I think it's a mistake to subscribe to the idea that men and women are equally talented in all fields (and of course I mean that no sex is "superior" to the other in that respect).

OIcpl: I concede that my impressions of Japan have been coloured (sorry, "colored") by my long-term presence here. Suffice to say that there's a tendency among Westerners to think their cultural values are the definitive ones. I agree that *some* Japanese male attitudes are indeed macho and traditionalist, but you could also say the same thing about guys in Yorkshire, Italy or Saudi Arabia :-) My take is that Japanese women are as emancipated and as glad to be female as anywhere else.....if not more so.

As much as I'm enjoying the journey into the social standings of women in the Japanese society, and I do love Japanese women as I think them stunning and in my eyes at least, the most beautiful of all asian women, I'm taking this back to the question that the blog started on. If someone has great legs, a short skirt looks good anywhere. If they don't have great legs then their better off changing before going out. I'll also think about a thought provoking one line rocket science blog just because I enjoy a challenge. :)

For me its enough to know what no one else knows, because they can't quite see, but doesn't stop them looking & hoping to get a lucky eye full & see much more lol. In general I like what some might call slutty behavior directed more at me than for others benefit. Whether the woman I'm with is wearing a short or a long skirt, if at some point that were out together she either leans over & whispers in my ear, she has no panties on, or just the ones I like so much, or maybe if safe to do so, she takes my hand & holding my hand against herself & where her panty line would be runs my hand down so I'm left in no doubt she isn't wearing any, or just the ones that lets me no game on & that from that moment on, unless I screw up big time, that were both on for a really good, big old time, so from that moment on I'm totally distracted & can think of nothing else, she could ask me for anything & I would probable just say yes to anything & not know until the following day what the hell I had agreed too. Its like kryptonite, I'm totally under her spell & powerless!!;0))

Think this only goes to prove what some people have probable been thinking about me for a long time now & that is I'm just mental lol.

OIcpl: As this blog seems to be petering out, I thought it wouldn't do any harm to return to your Japanese theme. As I've been over here half my life, admittedly my opinions are probably a bit biased, and I'm not so sure other bloggers here would be interested in such a digression, but as I'm unlikely to write a dedicated blog on the subject for that reason, I thought I would slip it in here.

I particularly zoomed in on your comment that you'd had fun in Japan, but not as much as in SE Asia. I suppose it all depends on where you went looking :-) What you have to remember is that Japan is an order of magnitude more developed than elsewhere. Perhaps Korea is on a par, but they have been tainted by Christianity, whereas the Japanese realized quite early on that missionaries didn't fit their beliefs and quite sensibly threw them into pools of volcanic mud, etc. :-) Western male travelers to places such as Thailand, KL, and other areas in the region have no difficulty getting laid: all they have to do is show up at some well-known pick-up spot, shell out for a few drinks, and they're away :-) Japanese women are a lot more fastidious and discerning, and I'm afraid that if you are to get through to them, more investment is needed. You can't just sidle up to them and say "Here's fifty bucks.....my place or yours?"

If you spent most of your time in Roppongi, then I feel you missed out. Roppongi was recently voted the most "overrated tourist destination in Japan". For some reason it has acquired an image of coolness and naughtiness, and this has led to it becoming a sort of "gaijin ghetto" where expats and the US military congregate because they don't speak the lingo and have serious expectations that it will be an easy pick-up spot. Admittedly there *is* a small minority of Japanese women (and Asian women resident in Japan) at the bottom of the education ladder who are hell-bent on chasing US military personnel because they have that kind of fetish. However, most mainstream Japanese women wouldn't touch Roppongi with a barge pole, and I don't blame them. It's horrible, and more like some seedy corner of Harlem than Japan.

I suspect you may have received a somewhat exaggerated impression of unfriendliness to foreigners. If you hang around Roppongi, striplapdance clubs and bars in fact offer no restriction as long you are prepared to part with hard-earned cash. I can tell you now that they don't discriminate. Money talks. As to bathhouses......again I've never experienced any discrimination whatever, and I'm well used to being naked in front of large groups of Japanese in that setting. One obstacle to foreigners in bathhouses, though, is tattoos. For a long time, tattoos have been culturally taboo in Japan, the reason being that they've always been traditionally associated with gangsters and low-lifes. It is indeed ironic that Japan has arguably the world's most highly evolved tattoo culture, and yet this has developed within the world of the "yakuza" and BDSM. Nice mainstream Japanese find tattoos grossly offensive, and many westerners can't get their head around this, especially when they show up at a bathhouse and find a "no tats" sign :-) For the sake of the tourist industry, there has been talk in Japan recently about relaxing restrictions on tats where foreigners are concerned. However, in this context, I'm on the side of "Mr Japanese Average". If I'm in a hot spring resort sitting in gorgeous hot water and admiring a fantastic view, I don't want to be sitting next to some guy from Baton Rouge or wherever who feels he has to subject the whole world to some inked "statement" emblazoned across his shoulder blade. It would be the same if some God Squad person felt compelled to march across the front aisle of the cinema with a sandwich board exhorting me to repent just as I was settling into the programme. I think if the magic and quirkiness of individual national identity is to be preserved, then "cultural globalization" should be selectively curbed: I never use Starbucks; Japanese traditional coffee shops serve better coffee and have a great atmosphere. OK their coffee is three times the price, but it's a price worth paying.

Hey Skebbie.At one time or another I have played most of the leading male roles in " The Mikado ". It didn't teach me much about Japanese culture though. A more typical example of British humour would be hard to find.

He's unique and not part of a dynasty :-) He's like a cross between a hitman, a debt collector and a pizza delivery service. He gets sent on missions to deserving parties who are on the list, or who have requested his services. Although blessed with professional expertise, he acknowledges that he's now on the doorstep of retirement, and so is anxious to fulfill his remaining obligations in the next year or two.

If you do a net search of my hometown, which starts with a C and is located only 10 clicks or so south of the Scottish Border, and then enter "chimney", you will find the local landmark after which Dixon is named. He was christened by a former local GF and the name has stuck ever since :-)
