What happened to doggie, spoon, missionary with the guy sitting upright, the woman impaled while sitting astride the guy in a kneeling position, etc. etc.? In the present context I would interpret "on top" as meaning the guy setting the pace. After all, us gents have an obligation to assume our responsibilities as pleasure-givers. It's possible for a woman to be physically on top, but otherwise passive if the guy is reasonably fit and worth his salt (no pun intended). Besides, I've found that when most women get on top, they become strangely inert, as if unsure what to do next :-)

Gilli: Frankly it seems to be more like paralysis than gentle rocking, bucking or kneading while impaled. Most women seem to require proactive encouragement, or failing that the onus is on the guy (at least in my experience) :-)

Firstly, 'need' rarely has anything to do with it. More on the lines of 'want'.
Secondly, there is always a sense of purpose and motivation and as they say in my world, "If your stallion has plenty of stamina, you can ride him all day." Yee-ha!

I hate to say it, but the other guys are right.
MOST women, in my experience at least, certainly do tend to still expect the guy to do the work even when she's on top.
Yes they will go through the motions for a minute or two, but never ever long enough to bring a guy to climax, or anywhere near!!
