Annoying auto messages

Is thier any other people that are over receiving automatic messages.
I have received some, and have replied, in the hope to meet someone.
I would rather not receive any messages than receive one's from people that are not interested in me, wasting time and effort.
If anyone knows, how to turn this off, or how to stop this, could you please let me know.
Untill then I guess I will keep answering messages, looking.
