Nowadays its fairly standard to see porn and sexually explicit content everywhere you go, from the x-rated adult films you can rent from your hotel room to the scantily clad images of models and suggestively depicted billboards down your nearest motorway. How has our attitude to sex and sexual culture changed throughout the decades though?

Sex in Store

Then, back in the peace-loving sixties, people were all about loving one another in more ways than one and were on the verge of a sexual revolution. It was this decade that sex toys became available to buy from adult shops. In comparison now we know that sex toys are readily available in bountiful amounts, whether online or down the road in your local dirty x-rated store.

Then and Now Porn

Porn has always existed to some degree ever since motion picture first came to be in the 1880s but it only really become widely acceptable and fully legitimised in the 1970s. The seventies seen the first porno with a plot which was Mona The Virgin Nymph. Nowadays there is a plethora of sexy movies to choose from, most of which tend to have a somewhat basic storyline and are often parodical of mainstream non-adult movies which grace our silver screens. Check out these ‘then and now’ examples of some rather smirk-enducing porn titles...

Then: Flesh Gordon

Sex rays, Amazonian lesbians and plenty of action, in more ways than one. What else can we say.

Now: Shaving Ryan’s Privates

Not exactly the Da Vinci Code of porn but this title makes us cackle just a little bit.

Then: El Sartorio

Supposedly the world’s oldest surviving porno, this Argentinian production from 1925 features the devil (a small beardy man with joke shop horns and the obligatory cape) kidnapping a woman to do naughty devil things to and use as his sex servant.

Now: Wet Dream on Elm Street

You may have already guessed that this is ripping the mickey out of Nightmare on Elm Street, but thing is, in place of Freddy’s iconically gulp-inducing razor tipped knives are big black dildos and Freddy is a knockoff sex toy salesman.

Slippery When Wet

Our sexual accessories have come a long way also, just look at something as simple as lube. Its a staple of modern day sex with a rainbow of flavours available, yet back not so long ago, people couldn’t be as choosy. Olive oil was not only loved by the Ancient Greeks for its flexibility in cooking but also as a lubricator for non-lubricating areas, yeah you know what we’re talking about.

This is only a few examples of how sex has changed throughout the years. For you, what are the biggest changes in sex, then vs now?
