Ch. 2: Zahavi's Handicap Principle

6:24 pm Thursday, 13th July, 2017

Black maned lions are more thermogenic under the sun than light maned lions. It is interesting to know that because they would expend more resources to withstand the heat compared to light maned lions. In the animal kingdom, such behaviour is desirable if one wants to portray that it is abundant with resources. It show cases that one can spend so much energy with doing something else like being thermogenic, muscular or colorful rather than saving up the energy only for surviving.

Let me go to a tangent real quick or probably not.

Most human beings have the desire to have economic prowess with the same evolutionary reason that was hard wired into our brains through **** billion years of evolution.
Now that I have given you the context of the principle, maybe I can introduce you to another topic that revolves around being inflicted with such programming.

Going back to chapter one, I have asked the question "do women actually choose to be choosy or is it the programming?" This chapter will be about this infliction of programming. A person is thrown into existence with such programming. What are peacock feathers but another conspicuous way of consuming resources to appear that one is abundant with such resource? Wanting to have colorful peacock feathers would be a no brainer in the peacock world. However, when a peacock is inflicted with such knowledge that this desire clearly does not belong to him every choice seems questionable thereafter.

Wait. I dont think I have made my point clear just yet. Maybe I made a bad example with peacocks. Lets go to vultures. Vultures eat ungalate feces to portray that they can withstand such viruses in their bodies. Their faces get bright orange and the stronger the color the more they get selected. It is also good to mention that most vultures also die because of the toxicity from the feces they are eating. As a vulture that knows Zahavi's Handicap Principle, would it be logical for him to practice the behaviour at the expense of him dying, but with the reward of getting selected? Ofc they would not be able to ask this question.

My point is simple. Context is everything. The scariest thing in the world is to be gifted with the insane chance of being alive and waste everything being run on auto pilot by our evolutionary machines.
