Why ? Possible reasons we do what we do

Does society dictate the way we behave and has the Internet allowed us to understand that others feel the same as we do but can only admit it with the security of aneminity?. Or is it we have escaped the rural idols and community bonds by living in cities that we know nobody really knows us as individuals we can be whoever we want to portray ourselves as being.
