There are only two countries in the whole world where there is no Divorce Law allowing its citizens to sever marriage and remarry. The two countries are the Philippines and the Vatican State. Between the two of these countries, the vatican is a quasi country where the inhabitants there are generally associated with the Roman Catholic Church and the Philippines which is the only democratic country in asia prior to the collapse of communism in Vietnam.

Why is then there is no Divorce Law in the Philippines? To answer this query, one must have a good background of Philippine History. History would show that the first conquerors of the Philippines were the spaniards. They not only colonized the native but also converted most of them into catholics. It is this spanish influence that made the roman catholic church here a force to be reckoned with. It is because of the lobbying of these men in faith that there is yet a divorce bill that has to pass first reading at Congress.
