What makes you infer that many profiles are fake? There are profiles that are obviously fake (for example when you receive a message from a person asking you to meet on supersexcam.com...), but for the rest it's quite difficult to spot.

Now, I think I can spot the fake profiles after some chats. What I do find very difficult to spot is those who are not willing to meet at all and who just fit your profile on purpose (high intelligent individuals) to entertain themselves with fantasies and fill gaps in their lives. . I can recognize from a mile the ones who just have got what you rightly called "Salesmen skills". I deal with these kind of people on frequent basis. Usually words that seem to impress without any substance of any kind. After some chats I can spot them easily or even the first.

However, to spot someone who just likes to chat and builds rapport and is completely intelligent and bright is more difficult. The bad side of them is that they will never meet you. They have got fantasies. The funny thing is that they are still them as human beings but they will never be in front of you.

Probably this just makes sense to me....
