New to the scene problem

Hi, me and my partner tried outdoor fun for the first time Thursday night. We turned up there was 1 car and it looked like they were getting started so we turned our lights off and just chilled see what would happen. 10 mins went by they left, returned again with also 3 other cars coming and going. Not sure if we did anything wrong. But any advice would be great
