In any relationship there will be some conflict over the regulation of intimacy and autonomy. No two people are perfectly matched in ther respective needs for closeness as a couple and their need for time alone and privacy. We can imagine a scale of zero to ten, zero being complete independence, and total "peas in a pod" identity immersion being at the top of the scale. Most people will fluctuate as to where they fall on the spectrum over the course of their lives. Always one member of any prospective relationship will want either more less autonomy then the other member(s) and as long as they fall close enough on the scale a heathy balance is achievable.
