How to approach couples and single women in a club

I quite understand what you are talking about. As a Welsh expat, I have been in the Spanish swing club scene with my Spanish female partner and also as a single male swinger for over 20 years and things have changed a lot.
First of all I have to say that I have been to clubs and parties all over Europe and other parts and Clubs here in Spain are quite unique in several details.
On the Spanish swinging scene, not all Spanish couples at clubs are married or stable; many go to have furtive sex because it is the one place where no questions are asked, anonymity is the word. They don’t come to mix or have swinging fun, they go because it’s convenient fuck joint.
Other scenarios are:
The guy who hires a lady off the street as a ticket. This is very common and you can usually sus them out due to their age difference, he’s usually much older. Years ago at swinging clubs, such as the famous but defunct Bilitis, Lola, the legendary hostess, would see to it that these kind of people didn’t get in. Unfortunately, however with the financial downturn, professional girls do come in because the punter leaves the cash. Again these couples are usually there for their own fun and hardly ever mix.
The couple with a bi partner who comes looking to satisfy their needs whichever way their taste takes them.
The couple who get off being seen or touched and that’s about as far as it goes.
The couple where the Spanish macho man tries it on with his wife or girlfriend to see what happens but there is usually not much commitment. Sometimes it is the woman who instigated this to see how “faithful” or “jealous” their man is. Most of the time these sort of people are not “happy campers”.
There are the couples who just socialise with friends and Spanish clubs can be rather cliquish. It does help if you are fluent or even try to speak Spanish (Spanish people tend to scorn and ignore foreigners who have lived here for years and haven’t bothered to learn the language). Swinging has a lot to do with communication……
My advice is to go up to a couple you like and just wade in, politely of course, sometimes an invitation to a drink helps to lubricate things a bit. I’m surprised this didn’t work for you. Maybe the case was one of those I have already described. Unfortunately again, and believe me I know, Spanish couples are not too turned on by north western Europeans and especially not Brits. Whereas we get very turned on by the tanned sultry Latin lovers and women. I suppose it boils down to a matter of taste.
I usually begin slowly with an occasional touch until everyone feels comfortable. Of course there has to be a degree of attraction on both sides. Amanda, judging from the photos of your profile on this website, I certainly wouldn’t have been offended or ignored you if you had approached me. I am sure we would have great fun!

We used to go to swinging clubs in Madrid, and believe me, we never considered insulting to have a nice conversation and a drink with a couple in the bar. We don't think there's a great difference compared to other countries, but we have never been to swinging clubs in other countries...

Bullparati commented on several typical couples you will find in spanish clubs, but I think it that's something standard for every country. What you must really considere is language... you know that we, Spanish people, are not fluent in other languages, so it may be a problem to try to contact a Spanish couple to have some conversation. Sex is a common language, that's why you may find it easy when you're in the dark room, but difficult when you try to have a conversation...

i quite agree with Disfrutemos, sex and body language crosses all cultural barriers. I also agree with them that it is nice to try to learn even the smallest amount of spanish because it does break down barriers. We do actually live here.
